Swap It Out

2010 March 15

How to beat the rainy day Sunday blues? Take a table full of treats, a pitcher of sangria, a “gaggle of festive ladies,” and about 15 bags full of clothing and let the games begin!

I hosted my first clothing swap on Sunday, and despite the torrential downpours, flooded highways, and apocalyptic winds, we had a great turnout, and everyone left with at least a handful of items new to them.

Bridget was a great Emcee for the day, giving descriptions of each item and handing the item around to all interested parties for trying on and bartering. There were a few hot items, but for the most part, we shared well.

Kim models her vampy new wine-colored skirt–just one example of a happy swapper!

One of our swap rules was that when you found something you loved and that fit you just right, you had to wear it for the rest of the swap (or until you found something else equally awesome). This resulted in some pretty hilarious combinations.

My haul was impressive and included 2 pretty dresses (the one on the left came from my sister, and I’ve worn it to a wedding before, so I didn’t even have to try it on),

a cute top with whimsical hearts, a short-sleeved jacket,

a bright tank top for summer layering, a neutral cozy cardigan, fantastically comfy khaki cords, great wool pants from Banana Republic, a sparkly gold sleeveless turtleneck,

a lovely multi-colored pendant, and two jaunty scarves!

Thanks to everyone who came out! I had a great time.

Have any of you ever participated in a clothing swap? What was your experience like? Would you do it again?

Also: Hi! Thanks for stopping by my blog. I’ll definitely be back to yours because I am a fellow book nerd. Fashionable book nerds = awesomeness!
