Boots on the Beach
The weather in New England was breathtaking this weekend–70s and sunny for 3 days in a row, in early April?! That never happens. Joe and I took advantage of the beautiful weather and drove to Ipswich on Saturday afternoon, about 45 minutes north of Boston. We ate the most delicious fried clams and scallops I’ve ever eaten, outside on the picnic tables at the Clam Box, and then walked up and down Crane Beach. It was almost as crowded as a summer day, with people in bathing suits, building sand castles and swimming. It felt strange to be walking on the sand in my boots and sundress, but I am not quite ready for full-on sunbathing just yet.
We went to a potluck party Saturday night (we made bacon-wrapped asparagus–so easy and delicious!), where we skipped poker to play a round of Kings, the drinking game with categories. We had the typical rules: waterfall, social, categories, rhymes, etc. But my favorite rule was that whenever anyone drew a 6 card, they had to sit in the “compliment chair,” and everyone in the circle would give that person a genuine compliment. Because there are only four 6 cards in a deck, everyone got a turn in the compliment chair when the game was over–so much fun! It was such a great way to spend a Saturday night–drinking good beer, eating good food (hello, bacon ice cream), and saying the things we don’t normally get to say to awesome friends.
The rest of the weekend was full of family, more food, some shopping (for Joe), and even more sun. Returning to the office is going to be a little tough!
How was your weekend?
