For the Bearded Gentleman

2010 May 18

There’s a poster hanging in my cubicle at work that my boyfriend got me for Christmas before we were dating. It shows, in great detail, the Hierarchy of Beards, and features illustrations of all types of beards, from the standard “chin muffler” to the more abstract “dangles-swaggles.” It is a fantastic poster and a fine addition to any work space. So yes, it’s safe to say that the new book, The Bearded Gentleman: The Style Guide to Shaving Face, caught my attention.

Authors Allan Peterkin and Nick Burns have provided a comprehensive guide on facial hair for the discerning male (and anyone else who enjoys a good beard). They profile 50 “hairstyles”–where they came from, how to style them, and how to grow them. Featuring advice from top stylists, as well as historical and cultural back stories, this book would definitely make a great birthday or Father’s Day gift for that special beard-I mean, man–in your life.
