Make Art, Not War

2010 October 5

With my family visiting this weekend and our housewarming party in a couple of weeks, Joe and I have been trying to get our apartment into top shape for our guests. It’s amazing how long the decorating process can go on for!

But things are progressing, and our apartment is finally starting to feel like home.  We got our couch a couple of weeks ago, rearranged the living room, and hung some art on the wall. We put final decorative touches on the space when we picked up a vital design element at the Brooklyn Flea on Saturday.

That’s right–our very own vintage typewriter!

We picked up a cheap table for it and hung my “Make Art, Not War” poster I got last year at the Shepard Fairey exhibit at the ICA in Boston.  I think it looks really classy!

And here’s Joe, demonstrating our comfy couch and giving a better sense of the layout. (We still need pillows, as you can see).

Decorating has been really fun, and though it’s taken lots of time, effort, and money, it’s a good investment to be proud to show off your home.  We’ve put a lot of thought into the apartment so far, and I think that shows! I’m excited to finish it up and show you the rest.

Very cute! If it works, you could make every guest who visits type their name– an ongoing guest book.

I love it Jill! Looks so cute you know what would look really good though? An original Josh McGinn picture hanging in there and by that I mean a picture I took, not a picture of me. Although if you really wanted I’m sure I could dig up an 8×10 senior pic.

I just sent Emily a post card that was of that Make Love not War poster!

LOVE the guestbook idea! Also, I can probably enlarge that 8×10 of Josh if you’d rather replace that black and white thing over the couch… I’m sure it will be a much bigger conversation starter. 😉

Love it, though! Can’t wait to see the rest!

Awesome typewriter! And the importance of a super-comfy couch cannot be overstated. You’ve done a fabulous job!

Um, excuse me. A very important painting containing some fruit with hats seems to be missing from these photos.
