On Pointe

2010 December 15

It seems that ballerinas are everywhere these days, with the usual holiday performances of The Nutcracker and Black Swan opening nationwide this weekend. I’m really looking forward to seeing Black Swan, and someday, I hope to see the New York City Ballet perform, but despite my fascination with ballet, I’ve only ever been to one performance (a performance of Cinderella, in Boston–the tickets were free). As a little girl, I harbored secret fantasies of becoming a ballet dancer, though my lack of grace and any kind of dancing skill (not to mention my physique) were signs that I was clearly never meant for ballet.

The Ballerina Project portrays dancers using New York City as their stage–and the images are gorgeous. You can buy limited edition prints here, but here are a few of my favorite images:

I love the ballerina project! Black Swan is sooo creepy! And, skip NYC ballet and move straight to ABT and Alvin Ailey :)
