Packing Conundrum

2010 December 22
by Jill

I confess–I’ve been in a little bit of an inspirational rut the past couple of weeks, blogging wise. I’m hoping that the holidays and break will rejuvenate me and I can greet the blog with open arms again in January!

Until then, I leave tomorrow for Christmas at home with the family in Rhode Island, and then I’m flying to Florida to spend time with Joe and his family before we return to New York for New Year’s. I’m really looking forward to some relaxing, warm(er) weather, and lots of time with friends and family!

I’m not used to this much traveling for the holidays, so my packing has caused me a little bit of stress–I’m only bringing one carry on suitcase, and need to pack for 8 days–3 in the cold, and 5 in the warm weather. I also need to bring a few dressier pieces to attend a few holiday parties.  To combat any potential problems, I made a list of items to bring, which included:

4 casual dresses

1 dressy skirt

4 cardigans (yes…a little much, but they are essential for layering!)

4 pairs of tights (2 black, brown, and navy)

4 t-shirts

3 pairs of shoes (boots, flats, and Converse)

1 pair of skinny jeans

1 pair of cords

Looking at the list now, it seems a little much for 8 days away, but Joe had extra room in his suitcase, so I stashed a few items there. Sneaky, yes, but essential if I don’t want to be wearing the same 3 outfits in rotation!

How do you solve packing conundrums?

Happy holidays to you all! I may not be updating until the New Year since my computer did not make the packing list, but I may get inspired once or twice, so don’t be a stranger.

I have an absolutely terrible time packing. i’m impressed you’re so organized!

I find that the extra room in men’s carry-ons is invaluable! I travel loads with just a carry-on though and I find it holds more than you think if you squish and roll, plus wear a few extra layers on the plane. Shoes are a might pain, however. Dresses are you friend, and two cardigans usually will do, plus some long-sleeved t-shirts for layering under dresses.

    I’m sure you managed wonderfully!
