The Word Made Flesh

2011 March 14

The Word Made Flesh: Literary Tattoos from Bookworms Worldwide is Eva Talmadge and Justin Taylor’s love letter to literary tattoos. Featuring a collection of over 150 color photographs and personal essays, the book focuses on the thrall of words and the power they can have over us–the way certain words strike a chord so resonant that some are willing to make them a permanent part of themselves.

The book has a Tumblr where you can check out tons of literary tattoos, like this one:

Though I’m not exactly the tattoo type, if I were ever to get one, it would be a literary one–though I’m not sure what. I’d have to put a lot of thought into something that permanent! What kind of literary tattoo would you get?

I 100% agree about the lit tattoo–it’s one of the few tattoos I would consider getting, and even then it’d take a whole lot of thought about what quote/image exactly. Just off the top of my head, maybe something from “The Giver.”
