Fashion Book: Nancy Drew

I didn’t read many Nancy Drew books when I was growing up–just a few here and there. And I definitely haven’t read any recently. However, Nancy came up in conversation over the weekend and I thought she’d make a fun Fashion Book subject.

I had a little trouble styling Nancy. At first, I began with a demure dress and flats. I know that’s what she’s typically depicted as wearing, but it just didn’t feel right to me. I changed it up a little bit to give her more comfort for when she’s out on the job, sleuthing: comfortable pants, Chucks, stripes, a snazzy hat (ok, so she’s not undercover), functional tote, a magnifying glass necklace, and a trench coat (of course!).

It’s pretty campy, I admit, but I had fun with it, and I think Nancy would appreciate the effort. For any of you who’ve read more of the books, what do you think Nancy would wear?

This is a million times better than the Nancy Drew film adaptation from a few years ago. I nominate Looks and Books to be in charge of all future films based on novels.

omg I loved Nancy Drew growing up – totally think she’d be super stylish! I like what you picked out for her a lot…it’s perfect :)

I always picture Nancy Drew in a sheathe dress with pumps, or a plain skirt and sweater with sensible shoes. I could see her in the outfit you picked, though, especially the hat, shoes and coat.

This is one of my favorites so far, I love the way you’ve modernized her! I want to wear this outfit VERY BADLY.

I read a lot of Nancy Drew books, after finding my mom’s collection of them in my grandparents’ basement one summer. You’re right that she’s usually in a dress on the covers, but I remember her wearing things like pedal pushers and flats, so I think you’re on the right track. I mostly remember how she would always “hop in her convertible” and race off to follow a clue. :)
