Anchors Aweigh

2011 May 4

I’ve been slacking on the outfit photo front, but this idea occurred to me out of the blue today, so I thought I would see where it goes. Why not take outfit photos with the book I’m reading each week, and talk a little about the book, a little about the outfit?

The Look:

T-shirt and Khakis: Gap

Jacket: Swapped

Oxfords: Wanted, via DSW

I got these oxfords last weekend and I’ve been experimenting a bit with what to wear them with. I felt like this outfit was a mix of nautical with some menswear thrown in there (with the trousers and oxfords).

Looking at the photographic evidence, the color of the oxfords and the khakis may match a little too closely, but I felt pretty snazzy at the office today, so maybe they’ll be paired again. Who knows?

The Book: I’ve now been reading 2666 for nearly two months (with a 3 week break for book club and library reading) and I’m finally in the home stretch–less than 100 pages (of 900) remaining! I’m glad I stuck it out, because the last section has enchanted me, and after the rough slog through 300 pages of brutal rapes and murders, I feel as though the book is paying off. It’s so complex and brutal and sprawling–it’s been a tough read, but I really feel a sense of accomplishment as I heft it on and off the subway, through doctor’s offices, from my couch to the bed. I’m almost done, and I’m very happy I stuck it out.

What are you reading?

You are the cutest. I love this idea–so novel. [groan… sorry!] Also, I like the pants and shoes combo. Sometimes mixing different shades in the same color family looks odd but I think mixing tans looks good! (And the earrings match, huzzah! Always loved those hoops.) Bravo!

I like this idea! AND that outfit! It looks really comfy, but also fashionable–love the stripes and the jacket. I feel like when people LOOK comfortable, they normally look GOOD.

Congratulations on (almost) making it through 2666! I admire your reading skillz for sure.

I am glad that jacket found a good home :-) It looks great on you!

Also, good for you on finishing that book. I do not have the resolve!
