Best of the Looks, Best of the Books 6/3/11

2011 June 3

It’s going to be a busy weekend–Joe’s play is going up, and BOTH our families are in town to see it. This is momentous, people. There will be brunch. And not much sleeping or relaxing. But I’m sure lots of fun will be had, and I’m really looking forward to seeing the show in its final incarnation and hanging out with the families. What do you all have planned for this first June weekend??

Best of the Looks:

There is something so easygoing about a sweater pulled over a summer dress. Add those perfectly-worn oxfords and you’ve got a true classic. (Image via Calivintage tumblr)

A gorgeous YSL ring.

A pretty sideknot ponytail tutorial on Could I Have That

An interesting look at the democratization of fast fashion such as Forever 21 and Zara, and their impact on modern consumerism in the n+1 blog

Best of the Books:

The interior of the library at Oxford University–gorgeous. I want to go to there. (via Pale Girl in the City)

At Flavorwire, the staff of One Story chooses their top ten short stories of all time. J.D. Salinger’s “For Esme, with Love and Squalor” leads the list–one of my absolute favorites. What are yours?

A list of Amazon’s best-read cities–Cambridge, one of my favorite cities, tops the list. An explanation why you won’t find New York or Los Angeles there.

Lovely bookbinding at Design Sponge.

The LA Times takes a look at what was on Marilyn Monroe’s bookshelf at the time of her death.

I’m a little surprised that Arlington and Alexandria are considered better read than Charlottesville (Virginia). Pittsburg surprised me. It doesn’t strike me as a bookish city at all.
