New York City Bookstores: Word

2011 June 8

Word is a lovely bookstore on Franklin Street in Greenpoint. Greenpoint, located just north of Williamsburg and south of Queens,is quickly becoming one of my favorite NY neighborhoods, and Franklin Street is home to many delightful shops, bars, and cafes. Definitely worth a weekend stroll if you’re in the area.

Though Word is housed in a relatively small space, it doesn’t feel cramped. Perhaps a little cluttered, but only in the way a bibliophile loves. The shop is bright, sunny, and full of color.

One of my favorite sections in Word is the stationery section, full of the best handmade cards you’ll find–I wish I lived closer because I’d buy all of my cards here!

More than interesting book displays and insightful staff picks, Word also hosts book groups, readings, and other local events, including workshops.

Basically, Word is awesome, and just another reason I love visiting Greenpoint.

I love Word! I just wish it weren’t so…inconvenient for me to get to. Three trains, kind of frustrating. I’d rather sit for 2 hours on a single train than have to keep switching, ya know? but they have some really cool events. Still upset I didn’t go to last night’s. Amanda Palmer was there!
