Hello! It’s been a while…a long while. Almost two months, in fact. Please allow me to explain my unplanned summer hiatus–Looks & Books’ server was hacked in mid-July, causing many web firewalls and filters to block it as “malicious content.” Joe was diligent in finding the problem and correcting it, but it took a great deal of time. While we were at fixing the technical glitches, we also decided this was the perfect opportunity to finally re-design the site, something I’ve been wanting to do for nearly a year.

Once all of that was finally done-(ish….still working on some tweaks!), I really had no excuse but to dive right back in. But I found myself procrastinating, waiting for the perfect moment to get back into it. The fact is, there is no perfect moment. Writing this blog is time-consuming and I’ve been busy with work, freelance projects, wedding planning, and taking care of our new dog Chief. Oh, and also enjoying the rest of the summer while it lasts.

As relaxing as this break has been, Looks & Books is important to me and I plan to approach this new iteration with enthusiasm and maybe even a few new features. It just took a hurricane (or tropical storm) to get me to sit down and put words back on the screen.

What have you been up to this summer? Read any good books? Discover any cute designers or items? What do you think of the new design? Leave it in the comments!

The site’s looking good! Good on you for using a bad event as an opportunity to overhaul things.

I recently finished Among Others by Jo Walton–I loved the way it’s anchored in an unusual time and place for fantasy novels (1979-1980 Wales and England), the narrative and main character are incredibly strong and realistic, and the callbacks to lots of amazing SF/F that the main character reads don’t hurt. There’s a kind of weird part that borders on slut-shaming, but the rest of it is so strong to me that I have to sit and think about the whole thing. Very, very good.

Welcome back, Jill! I like the new header.

These amazing gel clutches were featured on one of my fave blogs the other day; if only they weren’t $700–

    Keep at it!

Welcome back to the blogosphere! And just in time for fall fashion. :) Have you ever read any Jill Paton Walsh? Her “Knowledge of Angels” is one book I read this summer that really stuck with me.

New design is AMAZING!!! Well done to both of you– it’s perfect: chic, snappy, sassy. Well painted nails and chosen book, hon! :) I’ve been thinking a lot about good books to read while traveling– in transit, on trains, buses, daily commutes, and in transitional periods in one’s life. Just some food for thought, if that strikes a chord with you at all….. also, I am back on my traveler’s “Fashion Diet”– lots and lots of black, layering the same pieces in different ways with a single accessory, and comfy walking shoes. Am looking forward to reading and seeing your new posts as I hit the road, and thanks for some new fall fashion highlights from the land of new and interesting looks!!!
