Best of the Looks, Best of the Books 9/16/11
I’ve got a packed weekend ahead and I am REALLY looking forward to it. My mom, sister, and aunt are coming down from RI tomorrow to go wedding dress shopping (both for me and my sister!), so we’re all in for quite a whirlwind day. I’m only visiting one shop for myself, more to get a feel for what’s out there than anything, but we’ll see what happens. We also have various sets of friends in town, so there will be visiting, and the Brooklyn Book Festival is Sunday, followed by an end-of-summer cookout. What are YOU looking forward to this weekend?
Best of the Looks:
I’m a huge fan of Monique’s vintage sailboat print skirt–I’m in the market for a skirt with a similar silhouette. I also love the combo with the red shoes.
Michelle Williams as Marilyn Monroe for Vogue
Love these shoes from Anthropologie
A great Paris Review piece on covering Fashion Week in Paris…in 1947
The case of the crime-novel dress
Best of the Books:
A new book of Edward Gorey’s illustrated correspondence with Peter Neumeyer is in stores today–I’d love to get mail like this!
Largehearted Boy featured a playlist for Erin Morgenstern’s new novel The Night Circus (I’m currently reading it–expect a Fashion Book post next week!)
Five essential New York novels–chosen by Jay McInerney
Where the Lovely Things Are profiles a beautiful set of poetry books from Faber & Faber
GoodReads now offers reading recommendations. What I enjoy about this feature is the way it’s broken down by your shelves (for instance, my account give me recommendations based on what I read in 2010, or what I read in my book club).
