Fashion Book: Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe
Last week, I did a post on books I’m thankful for. I realized that of that list, I’ve only tackled Little Women in my Fashion Book series. What am I waiting for? It’s time to get to the rest of my favorites!
I decided to start with Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe. If you haven’t read the book, you’re probably familiar with the movie, which is also really good. Here’s how Idgie, played by Mary Stuart Masterson, appears in the film version:
Idgie Threadgoode is the quintessential tomboy, so I created an updated look for her that is comfortable, cozy, and functional. In fact, I kind of want to steal it for myself for every winter weekend going forward.
Stay tuned for next week, when I’ll create a look for Ruth, Idgie’s partner-in-crime and the cafe.

OMG ONLY ONE OF MY FAVORITE BOOKS OF ALL TIME! I eagerly await Ruth’s outfit!
I want this outfit
Ooh, yes, do Ruth’s outfit. I remember watching a VHS taped-off-TV of this movie over and over, dozens of times, as a child. It still makes me cry. I only read the book once (lent it to someone and never got it back) and remember enjoying it, but I distinctly remember the movie because I watched it religiously. Also, I never looked at barbeque the same again. Also, I LOVE Idgie’s hat from the courtroom scene and want one just like it!
What a great updated look for such a classic character. One of my favorites! Nice choice!
Love everything about this. Also, even though I’ve seen the movie at least 10 times, your screen cap made me suddenly realize HOW HOT that little necklace is on Idgie.
what kind of necklace is idgie wearing in that pic? i would love to have one like it. if anyone knows please let me know.
