Fashion Book: Fried Green Tomatoes–Ruth

2011 December 8

Last week I showcased Idgie’s tomboy style and now it’s Ruth’s turn. Ruth’s style is more classic and feminine. I initially thought about putting her in a floaty floral dress, but then a lightbulb went on: pants. It was the ’30s, and women were beginning to experiment more with pants and making menswear their own. Pants would have been more comfortable running a cafe and being a mom. So I put together a 30’s inspired look mixing feminine and menswear touches, which is still classic:

Fashion Book--Fried Green Tomatoes: Ruth

I love the hat and the asymmetry of the pants, and that top with the peter pan collar–amazing.

I read Fried Green Tomatoes for a class in high school. I loved it so much that I finished it in one day (way before the assigned date) and immediately started reading it again. I absolutely love Ruth’s look here! Her accessories are especially cool.
