Coverall: Rabbit, Run

2012 March 6

The Cover:

We actually have a copy of this in our home library and I love this cover design. Though Updike was about as chauvinistic as they come, he was a pretty good writer, all things considered. I haven’t read this one, but the cover is just about enough to convince me. Also, the fact that it’s in my apartment helps too.

I actually just read this one about a month ago, and I had a really hard time with it. It’s frustrating because the writing is so good, but the characters are so … AWFUL. For a woman to read anyway. Rabbit is a big giant asshole, but no one seems to really fully notice but me (as the reader). I just couldn’t get past the chauvinism (and i like Hemingway!).

I think Updike is worse than Hemingway…I can’t articulate why, exactly, but Hemingway’s writing is less offensive to my feminine sensibilities. Or maybe I’m just willing to give him more of a pass? I may have to read this one myself to make the final judgment call though…

Hope you’re feeling better now!! I’m loving coloured skinnies right now! I feel somewhat like I can’t control myself and I want to buy every shade (sorry hubs!). And those shoes are awesome. I’m in such a shoe rut, these are happy and FLAT. xx Natalie
