Coverall: The Grapes of Wrath

 The Cover:

I haven’t read The Grapes of Wrath, but I HAVE read East of Eden and really, really loved it. Far more than I thought I would. Have any of you read this one?

The Look:

Though I was tempted to create a look around overalls, I resisted that urge and did something similar–menswear inspired, but still chic and simple.

I have read The Grapes of Wrath, although it’s not my favorite Steinbeck. (East of Eden all the way!) But I love this look. I think the girl who’d wear this would listen to The Ghost of Tom Joad by Bruce Springsteen.

Hey Jill. Hope you’re doing well!

I absolutely LOVED East of Eden. I’ve read Grapes of Wrath twice – first in high school where I hated every second of it and second in college where I adored every second of it. Funny how phase of life can affect enjoyment of a book! In the end, Grapes is one of my all-time favorites.

    p.s. Love the hat! :)

i have read both (though it was awhile ago, hopefully i can still capture some cogent commentary), and while they are similar in some respects, namely the epic chronicling of a family traversing through various trials and tribulations, “the grapes of wrath” is quite different in terms of structure and approach. interspersed between the narrative chapters that detail the family’s travels out west to california, as they and many others attempt to escape the horrors of the dust bowl and the destitution therein, are these meditations on the evolution of agriculture industry, on the advances of technology and mechanization, and such.

“the grapes of wrath” is very much so depressing, and there is little to no hope or solace offered in the conclusion. definitely worth the read, but not for the faint of heart or for those teetering on the edge of wondering whether humanity is worth it.

on an aesthetic note, love the satchel you selected, so beautiful. the leather is impeccable.
