Best of the Looks, Best of the Books 3/23/12

2012 March 23

Firstly, Happy Spring! Secondly, Happy Hunger Games! I’m delaying the gratification of seeing the movie until Sunday afternoon, but I’m very much looking forward to nerding out. Although, I may be looking forward to the season premiere of Mad Men even more. My head may explode with joy on Sunday. Beyond that, my weekend plans include drinks with friends, brunch, shopping, and a visit from my roommate from Boston. 5 o’clock can’t come fast enough!

Items on my shopping list for tomorrow:

  • colored jeans
  • neutral flats
  • pretty flat sandals I can wear to the office
  • cropped black pants
  • a bright pencil skirt or a-line skirt
  • a patterned blouse
Yep, I hope to knock out all my spring shopping in one afternoon. Can’t wait! What’s on your spring wish list?

Best of the Looks:

Spotted this look on A Lovely Escape  and I was really drawn to how the colors of the bold necklace complement the print of the skirt really well. Also, the bag.

Probably a good thing that this vintage turquoise diamond ring has been sold. It’s gorgeous.

A slideshow of the stylish staff at Simon & Schuster. Question: how do they afford such nice clothing on a publishing salary?!

A fascinating look at the appeal of Pinterest.

Lusting after these Seychelles sandals.

Best of the Books:

Flash fiction inspired by fashion photographs for Vogue. LOVE this idea.

Can you identify famous writers by their prose alone? (Highlight the black bars for the answers–I couldn’t figure that part out!)
The book whisperer.
This list of reality shows starring famous authors made me laugh out loud.
Truman Capote’s In Cold Blood–cold facts?
Book Riot recommends books for Mad Men characters.
Have a great weekend all! And may the odds be ever in your favor…

The Vogue flash fiction thing is amazing!!
I am so excited for The Hunger Games movie too. I’m going to see it sometime next week. I was actually kind of surprised it’s gotten such good reviews! Hopefully it lives up to my expectations, though movie adaptations of books rarely do… Hope you and Joe have a great weekend :)

Hoping you get everything on your list and looking forward to seeing pics of you modeling it! I need to update my wardrobe but am putting it on hold for a bit due to work insanity. My must-haves are a big, bright satchel and some cute-yet-post-surgery-friendly shoes that aren’t sneakers or walking sandals… maybe a pair or three. :) I also need more jeans and maybe a new skirt or two. Maybe one of those pairs of jeans will be COLORED! Your blog inspired me to check out the trend.

    Happy weekend!
