Best of the Looks, Best of the Books 4/13/12

2012 April 13

It’s Friday the 13th, but there’s nothing spooky about the sun outside and the upcoming weekend.  The weekend forecast in NYC looks incredible, so I’m looking forward to taking Chief to the dog park and perhaps even checking out Smorgasburg. Other plans include drinks with friends…drinks with friends…and drinks with friends. Yep. What are you all up to this weekend?

 Best of the Looks:

Atlantic-Pacific does it again. I’m a huge fan of the pop of yellow on top, and those shoes. Oh my, those shoes.

A handy guide to plus-size vintage shopping at Here’s Looking at Me, Kid.

Fascinating post on the economics of getting your nails done–both now, and historically.

Braids. I love them.

Best of the Books:

Incredible and moving essay by Roxane Gay about reading The Hunger Games and what Katniss means for women.

Interesting look at Amazon’s philanthropy (?) toward indie presses.

My friend has a new blog about reading YA literature as an adult. You should read it!

The ten most frequently challenged books of 2011. Let’s give it a rest, everyone. Books are awesome. Love them.

A nice post about the library. I feel the same way when I stay away too long!

People are STILL disputing To Kill a Mockingbird??? Geez, crazies.
I can’t stand book banning – I’m a high-school English teacher and an avid book worm. I can’t believe Hunger Games is on the list too! That Hunger Games essay is amazing :)
