A Certain Vintage
As part of the clothing swap I hosted in January, I inherited a gorgeous vintage houndstooth skirt from my friend Lindsay. I was having trouble styling it, but I picked up a pretty navy lace top at Target last weekend when I was in RI for Easter and was surprised at how well the two worked together.
Also, it’s finally warm enough for outdoor photos!
Do you have any favorite vintage pieces? How do you mix them with the rest of your more modern closet?
And, just for fun, a coworker pointed me to Mad Style, a series of posts that breaks down the costumes in every episode of Mad Men and what their meaning is, both for the characters and the cultural context of the period. It’s addictive and so fascinating.

That’s a great skirt!
(JEALOUS.) Way to go with your styling skillz.
I’d love to see you try it with a bright pink top sometime… black, white, and pink are a no-fail color combo. I bet it would look fab! (And screw people who say redheads shouldn’t wear pink. I think you’d look amazing!) Or red or plum… those would rock too!
Where did the owl necklace come from? It’s awesome!
I don’t have any vintage clothes, but I have a few insane mod pieces of jewelry I got (ganked?) from my mom that I love. They’re enormous though, so I need to pick and choose what I wear them with. Also some things from my abuela. I also inherited a gorgeous pair of white gloves with pearl buttons from Jeremy’s grandma–can’t WAIT to wear them to a fancy party.
Thanks! It’s actually a navy and white skirt, so that’s why it’s a little bit of a style challenge. It could still work with pink though…and I totally ignore the “redheads shouldn’t wear pink” rule…as I ignore many other rules.
Oh my goodness, I am in *love* with Mad Men. Thank you for leading me to Mad style!
That shirt is a great find and reminds me of the Unconditional Osier Dress from Anthropologie. I think Mal has the dress, actually!
Yes, I know exactly which dress you’re talking about! And I thought of it too.
Haha. I just thought, “Hey, that looks like my dress!” Love it in a shirt, though. And I’m jealous of the Target price tag as well…
