Open (Toed) Season

2012 April 30

Spring is definitely in the air and my tootsies are ready to show off. In fact, I even got a pedicure last weekend in preparation. This is a big deal. I dislike people touching my feet so much that I only get one pedicure a year, at the beginning of the summer, so that my toes look somewhat presentable when they make their annual sandal debut, and I have to explain to the poor person tasked with giving me the pedicure that they shouldn’t take my squirming personally. “It’s not you, it’s me,” I say, apologetically.

Anyway, to summarize, my toes are a pretty coral pink and buffed to a shine. But they’ve been hiding away in boots and tights because the weather has been much too chilly for any bare skin, never mind sandals. HOWEVER, my birthday is coming up, and with my birthday comes the opportunity to go shopping! I’m looking for some good flat sandals that are comfortable enough for traipsing around the summer sidewalks (and subways) of New York, but also formal enough to be appropriate for the office. Here are a few ideas I’ve been considering–I would love to hear your opinion!

Bass Clementine Sandals in Cognac ($69.99)

Madewell Crisscross Boardwalk Sandal in English Saddle ($59.50) This one won’t ship until 6/18! Boooo.

Sam Edelman Gigi Sandals ($65)

Seychelles Pansy in Whiskey ($90)

Which ones should I get??

I like the first and last ones best! I’ve always loved sandals with braided straps (the first ones), and the bow on the last ones is so cute! :)

I’m excited for sandal season too! I have some extremely comfy but frumpy ortho-friendly Merrell sandals from last year. I think my foot is feeling better enough that I am going to explore some more sandal options–thankfully some of the ortho-friendly brands are coming out with cuter/less frumpy options that are still sort of supportive without being totally unfashionable. I definitely want to look for something in the same colors you’re showcasing here and with some of the same strap details. The ones you showed here are great–they can be dressed up or down. Make sure you showcase the ones you get (and your pedicure)! :)

BTW, I have never gotten a pedicure (or a manicure!) and don’t think I ever will because I am the same as you: strangers touching my feet weirds me out! Thank goodness no one examines your toes closely, because I can never stay within the lines! đŸ˜‰

They’re all good choices, but the last one has a bow on it. What says birthday more than a bow?!

I’m in LOVE with the last pair! They seem to be what you’re looking for, too, because they’re perfect for walking about town or going to the office. The top pair is also great, but it seems like an easy choice to me :)

I think you should get any pair but the last pair. They are awful. And I’m not just saying that because I want them for myself. In fuchsia. Nope.

(Seriously, though, a bow? They are the cutest.)

I would also like to add that I think the last pair is also the most work appropriate. They almost look like flats rather than sandals!

My favorites are unfortunately the ones that don’t ship until later in June! I just decided on these bad boys m’self.
