Coverall: In Cold Blood

2012 June 5

I’ve been neglecting the blog a bit this last week. I don’t have any excuses other than the usual lack of motivation/inspiration/time. Blah blah blah. Last week was a bit of a whirlwind with trivia, book club, a Radiohead concert(!!), and a weekend trip to Maryland (crab cakes! bocce ball! stars!), but now I’m back on track and ready to get going with the blog again. So, without further ado, I’m continuing with my coverage of Flavorwire’s 20 Most Iconic Book Covers series, with In Cold Blood.

The Cover:

In Cold Blood is one of those books that’s been at the top of my “I need to read this” list for years. It’s even sitting on Joe’s bookshelf here in the apartment, not 5 feet away from me. And yet…I just keep putting it off. I know the story, and I’m not eager to read about a murder, even if I know it’s creative journalism at its peak. Have you guys read it? What do you think?

The Look:

I wanted to capture the stark colors of the cover and the severity of the subject matter with a bold and austere, edgy outfit:

I’ve read everything that Truman wrote except “In Cold Blood.” I love his writing but I can’t bring myself to read that book. Maybe we can read it at the same time for support.

That’s a great idea, Sandy! We can have a mini-book club via Skype. :)

OMG READ IT. It is amazing. It’s absolutely gripping, and I don’t have a stomach for blood and gore in the least, but that is what it’s least about, really. I have read it twice and each time I have found it near-impossible to put down. It is an incredible study in characters and what makes people tick. If anything could make you empathize with a murderer…. I mean, how do you do that? Capote was a prize horse’s ass, but my word, what a writer.

I love those shoes. The rest of the outfit is like, “I’m a power player.” And then the shoes are like, “I’m a power player who is ca-ray-zee. Rowr.”

I’m glad you recommend it so highly! I will def check it out…someday…when my “to-read” shelf is more of a manageable pile. :)
