Dress for a Shower

My bridal shower is coming up next month, and it’s going to be a brunch at a French cafe in Brooklyn. I’ve been to (and helped throw!) my share of wedding showers, but I’m still stumped as to what I should wear. I have plenty of cute and summery dresses I could wear, but isn’t it more fun to buy a new dress? Theoretically, you only get one of these, and people are going to be staring at you opening presents, oohing and ahhing (again, theoretically), so you might as well look good while doing it!

Here are a few options I’m considering. What would you wear/did you wear for a shower?

Topshop Crochet Shirtdress: $80

Anthropologie Melora Dress: $118 (this is the back! so pretty)

Modcloth Luck Be a Lady dress (in Deco): $74.99

Dorothy Perkins Border Feather “prom” dress: $69

I love all of these, but most likely, I’ll use this as an excuse to head to the several amazingly cute boutiques in my hood. I’m supporting local business! And hopefully buying a really cute dress.

Oooh, those are all adorbs, but I would love to see you in the yellow one–mostly because it looks fantastic on you with your coloring! Plus, that back! So pretty! I also really love the feather print on the last one, because I am a big feather fan, and it’s so interesting and lovely. But yeah… get yourself a new cute dress! Then you’ll always remember what a nice day you had whenever you wear it in the future.

I wore a pretty top and nice jeans to my shower–I wanted to wear a dress but I was still feeling uber-self-conscious after my foot surgery. My calves were uneven sizes (!!) and my scars were really visible so I wanted to hide that. But at least since I was fancy from the waist up, in all the seated photos I look fancy! :) Well, except for the pink glittery crown my mother-in-law made me wear… So I’ve been wearing dresses to all the showers I’ve gone to since to make up for it! Can’t wait to see what you choose–whatever it is, you will look fab.

for my wedding showers, i didn’t buy a single new dress. i did, however, splurge on the rehearsal dinner dress and am so glad i did. you’ll have photos from your shower, but probably none that you’ll frame or look at all the time. my showers were also all over the country, so the friends and family at them didn’t see me often at all and couldn’t have known if i was wearing something old.

HOWEVER, had i seen a list of dresses as adorable as the one you just made, i might have done some shopping… i love all of those, but especially the dorothy perkins!

The Anthro and Dorothy P. are the most “shower-like” to me. In a good way! The yellow one looks like a modern interpretation of my parents’ wedding in 1972. My mother carried daisies and the bridesmaids wore yellow gingham. :) Whatever you decide, I think a little something new makes it feel like a special occasion–which it is. Have fun!

I absolutely love the color of the topshop dress, but the feather pattern on the Dorothy Perkins is so gorgeous. They are all beautiful, though, so I think you’d be great with any of them. And think of how much less nervous you will be knowing that you look amazing in a pretty, new dress!
