The Wedding: First Look

Rather than wait until after the ceremony to have our formal pictures taken, Joe and I opted to do a “first look,” where the bride “surprises” the groom and the photographer is there to capture the moment they see each other for the first time. I know some people prefer to wait until the ceremony to see one another, but for me, having our pictures taken together before the ceremony so that we could have more of the cocktail hour to mingle and see our friends and family was more important.

The first look took place in a small cluster of trees just outside of the guest house we were staying in on the farm where we got married. It was the perfect setting. After that was over, we climbed into my car and drove down to the water near the ceremony site for a few more photos together. It helped settle my nervousness a bit to be with Joe before the wedding started, and we had a lot of fun running around in our fancy clothes. Here are some of the highlights:

I tried to comment on here yesterday that I love Joe’s “jazz hands of delight” in the first photo, but the internet ate my comment.

In summary: first look photos, whether a formal thing or not, are always a delight! Seeing your fiance in the moments leading up to his transition from fiance to husband really calms the jitters and lights up your heart in a special way. /sap fest
