On days like today, when it’s cold and there’s been snow, rain, AND ice pellets falling from the sky, and it’s Monday, and my main task of the day involves a ridiculous amount of copying and pasting text, it’s nice to look out my window and see Narcisco Rodriguez’s studio across the street.
If you’re not familiar, Narcisco is a pretty big deal fashion designer. This past fall he came out with a line for Kohl’s and he’s dressed celebrities like Claire Danes, Emma Roberts, and Jennifer Lawrence. His studio is a warmly lit sequence of rooms, each sparse and sleek. Well-dressed staffers bustle from room to room throughout the day and into the evening, carrying loads of clothing, typing, or working on other projects. I love glancing over and wondering what everyone is up to. It’s much more interesting than looking over at another cubicle farm. I know I’m extremely lucky to have a window to look out at all (it’s my first one on the job!), but I really appreciate having the reminder that people are right across the street, creating something beautiful.
My favorite room is the bright studio, full of pictures on the wall and rolling racks of garments. On any given day, I can glance down and see models being photographed in new designs, or being fitted. It’s like an insider’s look into the fashion industry!
