What I Love This Week: 4/3/13

2013 April 3

Spring was in the air…for about a day and a half. Now it’s back to frigid temperatures, at least for the next few days. A few things on my radar this week:

1. Visits home

Joe, Chief, and I took a short trip to RI this weekend to celebrate Easter. We arrived Saturday afternoon and left Sunday afternoon, after a massive Easter brunch at my aunt & grandmother’s house. While we didn’t get to do everything or see everyone I wanted, it was still nice to be home for the first time since Christmas. We even got chowder and clam cakes at Iggy’s with my parents (my favorite RI cuisine!)

2. NatGeoFound

I could spend hours scrolling through NatGeoFound, a new Tumblr featuring photos from the archives of  National Geographic.

3. Rookie–Boys Will Be Boys?

I love that this Rookie essay calls bullshit on the classic saying, “boys will be boys.” A transgendered male speaks up, saying that it’s not all about hormones, and just because society lets it slide, it doesn’t excuse the behavior of many men toward women (and boys toward girls). It’s a great read.

4. Pull

And finally, I loved this story by Stacey Swann, recently published in Freight Stories Jo returns home to Texas after her job at a San Francisco newspaper collapses, and she is forced to confront her relationship with her ex-boyfriend and neighbor, Lou. The two share a complicated history, and so do their dogs.

Here’s hoping for sunshine the rest of the week!

Wow, that NatGeo tumblr is incredible. I feel like I’m going to lose hours going through those images.
