Best of the Looks, Best of the Books 6/14/13

2013 June 14

Even though it still doesn’t feel QUITE like summer here in NYC, we’re making the best of it…even though it sometimes means getting soaked in the process. What is with all this rain? It definitely has me considering investing in some of these. Last weekend, Joe and I drove up to the Hudson Valley (about an hour north of the city) and went on a small hike in Cold Spring, ate lunch on the waterfront, then headed to Beacon, where we attended the town’s annual famous Strawberry Festival, where we drank fresh strawberry smoothies and listened to Pete Seeger play his banjo. It was pretty excellent, and a nice reminder of how necessary it is to get out of the city every once in a while.

This weekend, we’ve got a brunch date, a fried chicken date (yes, this seems to be a recurring theme lately), and I have a writing group meeting, which I’m looking forward to. A weekend full of food and friends, and hopefully no rain. How about you?

Best of the Looks:

Sarah of Classy Girls Wear Pearls is summer road trip ready in this pretty shirt dress and navy wedges (want both in my closet!).

I’m thinking summer calls for some comfy espadrilles.

And building on the summer casual and travel ready theme, I really dig this Everlane tote.

Thinking of trying this dry shampoo for those days I just don’t want to wash my hair.

Best of the Books:

Ekaterina Panikanova paints stunning images on vintage books.

A round up of 17 movies about books–how many have you seen?

Some literary foodie destinations.

I enjoyed this post about our mostly unaware use of the dreaded “stealth cliche” in our writing.

High heels made from covers of romance novels.

Happy weekend, all!

For some reason, that tote bag reminds me of being on a sailboat. (Which I think I’ve only ever done like once in my life?) But there’s something happily yet subtly nautical about it.

Dry shampoo is great! I use the Klorane powdered dry shampoo on occasion and it’s quite convenient for those days when you’re getting greasy roots but just don’t have time for a real shampoo. (Or alternately when your roots are greasy but the rest of your hair actually looks fabulous.)
