Best of the Looks, Best of the Books 9/13/13

2013 September 13

Happy Friday the 13th everyone! Hopefully it doesn’t involve a knife-fingered man with a fedora and kind of a cute red striped sweater. (I mean, Freddie Kruger might just be one of the best-dressed horror villains. So dapper.). And of course, as soon as I typed out that witty observation, I realized that the Friday the 13th movies were Jason…totally wrong villain. Oh well. It’s Friday! I don’t care. I’m moving on.

Joe’s parents are arriving in New York this afternoon, as is his aunt, so we’ll be spending most of the weekend touring around the city, shopping and eating good food. I love showing off the city through someone else’s eyes, and even though Joe’s family has visited NY plenty, it’s always fun to be the host.

What have you got on your agenda this weekend?

Best of the Looks:

I really like A Little Dash of Darling’s mix of hard and soft with the floral dress paired with black moto boots. Also, cute sunglasses.

It’s NY Fashion Week, which you probably know by now. Though I love fashion, I sometimes find the hype of NYFW exhausting and a little like everyone’s just taking themselves a little too seriously. Jimmy Kimmel agrees.

Zoya, one of my favorite nail polish brands, put together colors created for a book.

I love all things tortoise shell–Matchbook features a list of some really cute tortoise accessories for fall.

Some helpful tips for taking care of your skin. I need some help in this department!

Best of the Books:

I loved, loved, loved “The Knowers,”  this week’s Recommended Reading at Electric Literature, a beautiful story by Helen Phillips about what can happen when you choose to know your destiny.

Inspiring bookstores from around the world.

These are just really pretty–what your favorite book looks like in colors.

This Book Club Mafia sketch pretty much sums up how I feel when someone doesn’t read the book. (Ha! Just kidding….?)

Have you guys heard about Oyster? It’s all the books you want for $9.99/month. Pretty great idea.
