Best of the Looks, Best of the Books 10/11/13

2013 October 11

I took the opportunity of this blowsy, gray, chill morning to buy my first Pumpkin Spice Latte of the season. It was good. Too good. Today is also my parents’ 38th wedding anniversary–happy anniversary, Mom & Dad!

It’s a long weekend (I think this is the first time I’ve gotten Columbus Day off since college) and the weather promises to be perfect for lounging around in sweatpants and watching movies. All of which I’m planning to do. What are your plans for the weekend?

Best of the Looks:

I adore Jess of Here & Now’s yellow dress, especially paired with a cute moto jacket.

Sarah at Trace the Shadows did a fun roundup of her favorite goodies from Out of Print.

Clarabelle’s 90 fashion tips to help you be more awesome.

I think everyone can agree that I need to own this dress.

Very interested in these ponte legging jeans…anyone have them? (Also, Gap is having a 35% off sale online through Monday!)

Best of the Books:

One of my favorite places to discover great short stories is Electric Literature’s Recommended Reading. Here’s this week’s story, “Supernova” by Dani Shapiro.

Thanks to my friend Julia, I discovered The Other People podcast with Brad Listi, where he interview writers and it’s really cool. The most recent episode features Ethel Rohan, and it’s cool, and you should listen to it.

The Royal Winnipeg Ballet is making The Handmaid’s Tale into a ballet. So cool.

You guys MAY have heard that Alice Munro won the Nobel Prize for Literature yesterday, which is wonderful, wonderful news. Here’s some writers talking about her.

A photographic history of the bookmobiles of yore at Messy Nessy Chic.

Reading literary fiction literally makes you a better person.

Happy Weekending, all!

Our bookmobile only got about 3 miles to the gallon but people loved it. They were really ticked when we replaced it with branch libraries in our small county. Folks got used to the branches and their much expanded services and the county made
the bookmobile into a fire command center. We got lots of laughs out of that!
